Sonoma County House Fire Displaces 10

Damage from the early-morning structure fire is estimated at $400,000.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Two families were displaced by a fire at a house in west Santa Rosa early this morning, a fire battalion chief said. The single-story, wood frame house at 840 W. College Ave., a travel trailer and two vehicles were burning when firefighters arrived around 3:30 a.m., Santa Rosa Fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.

Two families comprised of six adults and four children evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. More than two dozen firefighters controlled the blaze within 40 minutes and kept flames away from another home 10 feet away, Basque said.

The cause of the fire is accidental and likely due to an overloaded electrical circuit in the garage, Basque said.
