As LA Burns: Wind Advisory In Bay Area, Possibility Of Power Outages

Flood and frost advisories were also impacting the Bay Area. Here's what to expect weather-wise in the region.

BAY AREA, CA — The National Weather Service forecast Monday for the greater San Francisco Bay Area called for windy conditions with mostly clear and sunny skies.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects," weather officials said. "Tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may result."

A wind advisory was expected to continue through 10 a.m. Tuesday for the North Bay interior mountains. Winds were forecast in the 25-35 mph range with gusts up to 45-55 mph. The higher the elevation, the stronger the gusts, the weather service said.

The wind advisory is being taken seriously by Bay Area residents, and fire officials charged with keeping local residents and property safe.

"We have to double down," said Berkeley Fire Chief David Sprague. "We have to prepare because it's a matter of when, not if."

Last week, while winds were calm, controlled burns were conducted near Moraga to clear fuels.

A coast flood advisory went into effect at 7 a.m. Monday and was expected to continue until 1 p.m. for Bayshore locations along the San Francisco and San Pablo bays. Residents were advised not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

Forecasters said dry conditions would continue this week with mostly clear skies and stronger offshore winds expected through Tuesday, but not as widespread or as strong as last week. Calmer winds were expected by the middle of the week.

Forecasters called for daytime highs of mainly mid-60s on the coast, high 50s to low 60s around the bay, and high 50s to mid-60s inland. Overnight lows will be in the high 30s to low 40s.
