Here are the top 5 stories in Healdsburg today:

  1. Healdsburg might get kicked out of the second California State Assembly district, currently represented by former Healdsburg mayor Jim Wood, if the latest redistricting maps proposed by the state’s Citizens Redistricting Commission were to become a reality. This process happens every 10 years, right after the new Census comes out. And the Lost Coast Outpost, a local paper in the Humboldt area, noticed that the majority of Healdsburg — basically everything east of the 101, and then some — gets excluded from Wood's district in these new hypothetical maps. "This one is a little wild," the Outpost writes. I'm having a heck of a time navigating the commission's website for more information, like what our new district would be (!), but I'm dropping the link here if you want to dive in yourself. You can also access the feedback form here or livestream today's meeting about these maps. (We Draw the Lines CA & Lost Coast Outpost)
  2. The folks who run Yoga on Center, a beloved Healdsburg yoga studio that's lived in the same spot on Center and North downtown for 17 years, say they just learned their "lease is not going to be renewed" and need to find a new home before January. "We are devastated and shocked," co-owner Jenn Russo posted last night in the "What's Happening Healdsburg" Facebook group. "After our studio surviving covid times, this feels like a bit of a slap in the face." Yoga on Center is now appealing to the community to help them relocate. "We have been looking at all the rental spaces that are advertised," Jenn writes, "but if any of you know of a special space, or anyone who wants to support the community and offer a space we would be so grateful." (Facebook)
  3. Another local business update from the new owners of The Parish, that delicious Louisiana-style restaurant right off the roundabout at the south end of town. Gareth and Lynette Owens bought the restaurant back in July from Parish founders Rob and Karla Lippincott, then "reopened just a few days after closing escrow" — with a commitment to recreating the "same recipes, same menus, same great food and vibe." Now they say they have no choice but to press pause for a week or two for some much-needed kitchen upgrades. They'll be closing on Monday, Nov. 8, and hope to reopen by Friday, Nov. 19. "We are really excited for these upgrades as they will help ensure that we are in a position for success for years to come," they write in an email. "We are looking forward to getting them done as fast as we can so we can get open quickly!" (Inbox)
  4. COVID vaccinations for kids from ages five to 11 will begin soon in Sonoma County. They'll be getting around one-third of the adult Pfizer dose, which has been deemed safe for young kids by the FDA and CDC, and will need a second dose after three weeks. Appointments can be made through your kid's doctor or the MyTurn state government website, county officials say. However — there's also a vaccination clinic coming up at Healdsburg Elementary School's Fitch Mountain campus next Friday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Dec. 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS say they'll start offering vaccines for kids at certain locations this weekend. 5. Did you know there's a new resource center for homeless people in Healdsburg? A local nonprofit called Reach for Home opened the "Navigation Resource Center" last week at the city-run Victory apartments at 308 East Street, right next to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. The apartments are used as "supportive housing," while the new resource center is "a place where unsheltered individuals can come, they can get access to all of the services they might need, CalFresh, jobs and coordinated entry," Reach for Home's executive director tells the Tribune. "We have computers they can use so they can look for jobs, use email," charge their phone, receive mail, store stuff in lockers, etc. Here's how you can help support the cause, if you're interested.
