The opening sequence shows the final moments of the planet Krypton, where Krypto, the Kryptonian pet of baby Kal-El, hops into the spacecraft of the future Superman for the duoโ€™s super-flight escape to Earth.

Years later, Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), now the Super-Dog with superhero powers, enjoys his bromance flights with his buddy, Superman (voiced by John Krasinski). Where? The limitless galaxy is the super-duoโ€™s playground.

So, naturally, when Superman starts giving reporter Lois Lane (voiced by Olivia Wilde) the attention, Krypto the Super-Dog becomes unhappy and resentful. To add insult to injury, it does not help when Superman entertains the idea of getting another dog to keep Kryptoโ€™s company.

The animal shelter features a ragtag team with the propensity to escape to a magical place. They include the leader of the pack, dog Ace (voiced by Kevin Hart), the ebullient pig PB (Melissa Bayer), the nearsighted turtle Merton (voiced by Natasha Lyonne) and the skittish squirrel Chip (voiced by Diego Luna).

There is also the nefarious guinea pig Lulu (voiced by Kate McKinnon), who at some point, acquires super-powers which she uses to subdue the Justice League, including Superman, Wonder Woman (voiced by Jameela Jamil) and Batman (voiced by Keanu Reeves).

Can Krypto save his master and the Justice League? Well, his newfound super-friends can certainly help. After all, a friend in need is a friend indeed.

โ€œVengeanceโ€ โ€” Isabella Amara, Ashton Kutcher, Grayson Berry; directed by B.J. Novak

Screenwriter and โ€œThe Officeโ€ actor B.J. Novakโ€™s feature directorial debut is a neo-noir mystery-comedy thriller surrounding a murder case.

In the film, Novak plays Manhattan journalist and wanna-be podcaster Ben Manalowitz, a toxic male who has an uncontrollable appetite for serial dating. When Abby (Lio tipton), one of his one-night stands, turns up dead in West Texas, he attends her funeral and meets her family โ€” who thinks Ben was Abbyโ€™s love of her life.

Her brothers (Eli Abrams Bickel and Boyd Holbrook) are totally devastated, and they think that their sisterโ€™s death was no accident. But who could have done it? Well, the brothers are burning with anger and vengeance.

Guess what? To solve the case, Ben turns around and concocts a buzzy and sensational podcast. His topics, ranging from the operoseness of local music production to the sensitive issue of American divide, offer a glimpse of vengeance he has in mind.

See it.

Novakโ€™s amazing witticism is written all over the place, immersing audiences into an absurd comedy with a beating heart.
