Summer has arrived, and the hottest season of the year is heating up in Netflix land in July: For the first time ever in its nearly 25-year history, the streaming service will release new installments of a movie series one after the other on a weekly basis.

This rare move marks a departure from the companyโ€™s long-standing tradition of dropping an entire movie franchise or seasons of shows in one massive rollout โ€” all at the same time.

So get excited, as the consequential moment kicks off Friday with the debut of the Netflix original movie โ€œFear Street Part 1: 1994," the first installment in a time-spanning teen horror trilogy. The rollout continues on July 9 with โ€œFear Street Part 2: 1978," followed by โ€œFear Street Part 3: 1666โ€ on July 16.

In July, Netflix will also premiere other highly anticipated original films, including the sci-fi โ€œTrollhunters: Rise of the Titans,โ€ the rom-com โ€œResort to Love,โ€ the adventure thriller โ€œGunpowder Milkshake,โ€ the action-packed โ€œThe Last Mercenaryโ€ and the horror thriller โ€œA Classic Horror Story.โ€

Meanwhile, the young adult series โ€œNever Have I Everโ€ and โ€œOuterbanksโ€ return for Season 2. Other notable Netflix original shows making their way to the streaming platform this month include new seasons of โ€œYoung Royals," โ€œCat People,โ€ โ€œVirgin River" and โ€œSky Rojo,โ€ as well as the final season of โ€œAtypical.โ€

Netflix also adds a number of anime and animated originals such as โ€œResident Evil: Infinite Darkness,โ€ โ€œMasters of the Universe: Revelationโ€ and the revival of โ€œJohnny Test.โ€

Looking for nostalgic films? Look no further than the โ€œAustin Powersโ€ trilogy, the โ€œKarate Kidโ€ trilogy and the entire collection of the teen vampire saga โ€œTwilight.โ€
