Applicants Sought For GUHSD Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee

Community members with a background in finance or accounting are encouraged to apply.

EL CAJON, CA — Grossmont Union High School District is seeking applicants to fill an open position on the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee.

The eleven-member committee oversees the implementation of Proposition U, the $417 million general obligation bond measure passed in November 2008, as well as Measure BB, the $128 million general obligation bond passed in November 2016, to improve and renovate the district's schools.

"CBOC provides an independent examination of district bond project planning and spending to afford the taxpayers and community at large validation that funds are being spent as intended and designed," explained Randall Sanner, last year's committee chair.

The committee reviews planning documents and financial reports, and visits construction sites and completed projects to ensure that project work is consistent with reported expenditures. The committee includes GUHSD parents and guardians, members of the East County community, professionals and retirees.

"We promised East County voters that we'd build safe, modern high schools, that we'd do so with transparency, and that we'd always be accountable to them," said GUHSD governing board president Robert Shield. "The community leader who is appointed to fill this vacancy will help ensure that GUHSD delivers on that promise, so they'll be performing a vital community service."

The committee member, who will be appointed by the board, will serve a two-year term beginning in December.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, not be employed with or contracted by GUHSD, and be able to attend meetings. Applicants must also have a background in finance or accounting.

Applications will be accepted through Nov. 1. Application forms are available online or from the district office at 1100 Murray Drive in El Cajon.
