Man Wounded In East County Shooting

Witnesses told authorities that three suspects were seen running away after the shooting.

LAKESIDE, CA — Authorities Wednesday were investigating an East County shooting that sent a man to a hospital.

A shooting was reported shortly after 3:20 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Ashwood and Mapleview streets in Lakeside, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Responding deputies found a 22-year-old man who was shot in his leg, Sgt. Colin Snodgrass said. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released several hours later.

Witnesses told authorities that three suspects, described only as Hispanic men, were seen running away after the shooting. Deputies searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.

Nearby schools, including El Capitan High School, were temporarily placed on lockdown.

"This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no safety threat to the public at this time," Snodgrass said.
