La Mesa Star Student 'Represents The Hope For The Future Of Our World'

LA MESA, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Kathleen Johnson who nominated Shaelen a high school senior of La Mesa.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Shealen is an exceptional person. Besides keeping a high grade point average throughout school, she plays the guitar and piano, and is currently Violin First Chair in the Helix Charter High orchestra. Shae is passionate about our Earth, and belongs to the Environmental Club. She has the distinction of being the youngest member of the La Mesa City Council, and serves on the Environmental Sustainability Commission. She volunteers around San Diego for different eco projects, and will major in Environmental Sciences in college. Shaelen is an inspiration to her 4 siblings, and everyone who knows her. She is kind and beautiful inside and out, and represents the hope for the future of our world.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Shaelen embodies the hope and youthful determination needed to effect positive change for our environment and our world. She not only talks the talk, she walks the walk, being vegan, and living a sustainable lifestyle, inspiring others to do so as well
