Martinez To Receive $2.5M Toward Pier Repairs
"There is no doubt this support from Congressmen Thompson and Garamendi is appreciated by all Martinez residents," Mayor Brianne Zorn said.

MARTINEZ, CA — U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson and U.S. Rep. John Garamendi held a ceremony Tuesday in Martinez to announce that $2.5 million in federal government funding has been secured to renovate the fishing pier at the Martinez Marina.
Safety has been a major concern, according to the city; the needed renovations and repairs will improve and enhance the public’s recreational uses of the area and are projected to extend the useful life of the fishing pier for at least the next 30 years.
More information is expected next month about when the city will receive the funds and plan for construction, city officials said in a news release.

Without this funding, the city says the fishing pier will continue to deteriorate and need to be closed to the public due to safety concerns.
"Receipt of this earmark for the fishing pier is a very important first step for the revitalization of the Martinez waterfront," Martinez Mayor Brianne Zorn said. "As a popular regional amenity that gets thousands of visitors a year, there is no doubt that this support from Congressmen Thompson and Garamendi is appreciated by all Martinez residents."
