Obituary: Narcisa Villareal (1918-2013)

A hardworking and inspiring woman dies at age 94.

Narcisa (Narcy) Villarreal, a resident of Mountain View for the past 60 years and eldest of three children to the late Robert and Sara Felix Davila, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. She was 94.

Born in Rey, AZ, Mrs. Villareal had to leave school in the fifth grade to help raise her younger sister Mercedes "Meche" Urango. Early in her work life, Mrs. Villareal worked for the Diebel Veteran's Hospital in Palo Alto caring for the soldiers. She always talked about the blind soldier who'd flirt with her.

Years later she worked at the Del Monte Cannery in Sunnyvale in the fruit packing line. Her last job lasted 19 years, retiring at age of 70 from the Mountain View Conv. Hospital as housekeeping supervisor.

Her leaving school at such an early age became a driving force which she used to encourage her children to excel in their education. Even more importantly, Narcy wanted them to live happy and grateful lives. Her wisdom and grace coupled with unconditional love, taught her offspring life skills not taught in school.

Mrs. Villareal is preceded in death by her husband Humberto Villarreal. She's survived by her brother Frank Davila, sister Mercedes Urango and children Burt (Janet), Linda (Scott Young), Eddie, and step-children Mario (Pat), Deanna and Yolanda (Larry Deason). Her adoring grandchildren are Jorden Villarreal (Heidi), Michael Stevenson, Sophia Villareal, Madeleine and Spencer Young.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the children of Spencer and Maddie's sister school in Costa Rica would be appreciated. Her grandchildren will travel to Costa Rica on Feb. 16 to deliver gifts donated in memory of their grandmother. Please send your donation payable to Linda Young, c/o 96 W. El Camino Real, Mtn.
