Behrens Street Gets a Bridge

On Tuesday, workers installed a new bridge in the flood-prone bridge on the corner of Behrens and Seminary streets in Napa.

I remember the New Years Flood of 2006.

My old shoes are still caked with mud from the Napa River after I walked the streets of Napa to photograph and talk with neighbors affected by the flood. 

It was a wet, muddy and heartbreaking affair.

The flood served as a wake-up call for the city of Napa, instituting an ambitious Flood Control Project the likes of which Napa had not seen in the past.

One of the neighborhoods most hit by the brown flooding waters of the Napa River was the Behrens Street neighborhood, skirting Napa Creek.

On Tuesday, workers installed a new 70-foot bridge, designed to replace the previous bridge and to help prevent future flooding.

For the next few weeks, workers will put the finishing touches on the bridge -- including water line work.
