NAPA VALLEY, CA — St. Helena and Calistoga residents who need to dispose of dried-out Christmas trees are in luck because your local Boy Scouts will pick them up this Saturday, Jan. 6, for a small fee.

Boy Scout Troop 1 is recycling the trees, which must be stripped of all ornaments, nails, tinsel and tree stands, and then left at the curb by 8 a.m. Saturday. The troop is not picking up fresh garlands or wreaths as part of the service.

A donation of $10 per tree is suggested in St. Helena. Residents need to purchase a tag at one of three local businesses —Sunshine Foods, Steve's Hardware, or Central Valley Hardware in St. Helena — then fasten the tag to the tree before setting it out at the curb. All donations support Scouting activities.

For Calistoga residents, it is also suggested they schedule their pick-up the day before —Friday, Jan. 5 — on the website Trooponenapavalley.org by clicking where it says "Donate and Schedule Pick-Up."
