Cove Fire Stopped; Crystal Fire Nearly Contained

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters quelled a vegetation fire that erupted Thursday south of Lake Berryessa.

The Cove Fire —initially called the Wragg Fire — broke out at 2:39 p.m. Thursday near the 5099 block of Wragg Canyon Road and state Highway 128. It was 3 acres and burning at a low rate of spread, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said.

By 4 p.m., the forward progress of the blaze was stopped.

"Sensor aircraft has flown over this incident and calculated the acreage to be 2.8 acres with more accurate mapping," Cal Fire said in an update at 4:45 p.m. "Ground crews continue to work on gaining containment. All air resources have been cleared from the incident."

It marked the second wildfire in as many days in Napa County.

On Wednesday, the Crystal Fire broke out on Crystal Springs Road in Deer Park, injuring four firefighters. At 8 p.m. Thursday, the Crystal Fire was 60 acres and 90 percent contained.

"Crews will continue working overnight to strengthen containment lines and put out hot spots," Cal Fire said.
