Gas Leak In West Napa Secured

A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents Wednesday morning while the gas leak was secured.

NAPA, CA — A construction crew not affiliated with PG&E struck a 2-inch plastic natural gas service line with a backhoe Wednesday morning, causing a shelter-in-place advisory in the Browns Valley area of Napa. The gas leak at the intersection of Austin Way and Carmel Drive was reported around 10 a.m.

Three customers were without gas services, and the leak was stopped by 11:40 a.m., PG&E spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said.

A preliminary inspection indicated the underground gas lines were not marked, Contreras said.

City officials wrote on Twitter about the gas leak shortly before 11 a.m., saying Carmel and Pinewood drives were closed, and parts of Austin Way at Carmel Drive and Atherton Circle were closed.

About an hour later, the city tweeted that PG&E crews had secured the gas leak and the shelter-in-place order was lifted but that the roads would remain closed while crews repair the gas line.
