The heat was expected to dissipate Thursday, but not by much. The National Weather Service extended its excessive heat warning for North Bay's interior valley and coastal ranges through 11 p.m. Friday. Interior temperatures will range from the mid-90s to low 100s, regions close to the coast will range from the upper 70s to mid-80s, and regions directly along the coast will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s.

"The heatwave did peak the last couple of days, but impacts from moderate to extreme heat risk at times, will be felt into the weekend," the weather service said. "The beginning of next week does hint at relief from the heatwave. However, temperatures are still slightly above normal for interior locations toward the end of the extended forecast."

Weather officials said the big picture still remains the same: "high pressure overhead, clear skies, little to no marine layer, warm air mass. A mix of Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings remain."
