Napa Coombsville Fire Briefly Threatens Structures

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters gained the upper hand Wednesday on the Coombsville Fire in Napa. As of 6:45 p.m., the fire was 80 percent contained at 8.5 acres, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said.

The wildfire broke out around 1:35 p.m. Wednesday at 1133 Coombsville Road near Silverado Middle School east of First Avenue in Napa.

Crews with Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit and the Napa Fire Department battled the wildfire Wednesday in unified command.

As the fire — initially reported to be 10-15 acres —moved north from Coombsville Road into the Monte Vista area, mandatory evacuations were issued as structures were threatened.

A map of the mandatory evacuation area was posted on Zonehaven. NAP-EO35 was ordered to evacuate and NAP-EO51 was under an evacuation warning.

An evacuation center was set up at the Napa Expo, with residential reunification access at the Juarez Street Gate and family/student reunification access at the 575 Third Street Gate.

At 3:07 p.m., Cal Fire announced forward progress of the blaze was stopped at 7 acres.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Cal Fire announced the blaze was 60 percent contained. Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene for 2-3 hours strengthening containment lines and putting out hot spots.

At 5:18 p.m., the Napa Police Department lifted evacuation orders and was allowing residents to return home.
