Napa Valley Expo To Host Fourth Of July Fireworks Show

"We are excited to be a part of this day-long 4th of July celebration," said Jeri Hansen, president of the board, Napa Valley Expo.

NAPA, CA — There will be fireworks in Napa this Fourth of July after all.

It was announced Monday that in lieu of the discontinued city-sponsored fireworks display, the Napa Valley Expo — in partnership with BottleRock Presents and Napa Hotels & Inns — has organized a professional fireworks display for 2023. This new fireworks show is an independent initiative, separate from the city's events, and is not affiliated with the city's previous fireworks program, city officials said.

Napa Valley Expo’s fireworks show by Pyro Spectaculars, the company that produced the show in past years, starts around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Fireworks will be visible from prime viewing areas in downtown Napa and along the Napa River. There will not be any viewing areas open to the public on the Napa Valley Expo grounds.

As previously announced, the city of Napa’s traditional Fourth of July fireworks show, previously organized and sponsored by the city, has been discontinued. The decision was made after careful consideration of various factors, including concerns related to pollution, wildfire risk, and noise anxiety, city officials said.

"When the City of Napa announced that it was discontinuing the fireworks, the Expo Board of Directors and staff began to make calls and inquiries about presenting the fireworks show this year," said Corey Oakley, CEO of the Napa Valley Expo. "The feedback we were getting was supportive of a show, and the opportunity to keep the tradition of fireworks for our community was appealing to us. With the help of some very generous community-minded partners, we felt that we had enough support, time, and resources to produce a safe show at the Expo."

The Napa fireworks have traditionally been launched from the Expo grounds, which is an ideal location with lush green lawn areas, plentiful open space, and restricted access as necessary.

"When we were approached by the Napa Valley Expo with the unique opportunity to help the fireworks materialize this year, we felt it was the right decision to provide a sponsorship on behalf of the Napa Hotels & Inns," said Michael Collins, Chairman, Napa Tourism Improvement District. "This is a win-win for both our local community and our visitors alike."

The Napa Fireworks show is co-sponsored with media support from Napa Valley Marketplace Magazine and Wine Down Media - 99.3 FM The Vine and 1440 AM MegaMix.

The city of Napa remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community in all local events and also offers several city-sponsored events celebrating July 4th, city officials said. The day of family-friendly activities kicks off at 10 a.m. with the annual Rotary Club July 4th Parade in Downtown Napa. The celebration continues from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. as the city hosts a free Fourth of July celebration at the Oxbow Commons with activities for all ages and a free community concert in collaboration with the Oxbow Riverstage.

"We are excited to be a part of this day-long 4th of July celebration," said Jeri Hansen, president of the Napa Valley Expo Board of Directors. "With the annual parade in the morning, the City of Napa’s family festival in the afternoon, and finishing with traditional fireworks, it’s a great way to celebrate community spirit on this significant day for our country. We are sensitive to the issues that prompted the City to not continue to sponsor the fireworks and are confident that providing an organized fireworks show, from one location, for a broader audience is both safe and festive. We don’t know what the future holds for local fireworks but, this year, we felt it made sense to put on a great show."
