Cal State Northridge Assaults: Man Pleads Not Guilty

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA -- A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty on Feb. 15 to charges that he assaulted two women a day apart last year at Cal State Northridge.

Peter Wei of Northridge allegedly assaulted one woman near a parking lot on campus Nov. 27 and a different woman the following day. He was arrested that day by Cal State Northridge police.

Wei, who is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, was charged Nov. 30 with two felony counts of assault to commit a felony, including rape, sodomy or oral copulation, and one misdemeanor count each of battery and resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer.

Criminal proceedings were initially suspended after a defense attorney declared a doubt about the defendant's mental competency.

Wei, who is due back in a San Fernando courtroom on March 13, could face a maximum sentence of nearly 13 1/2 years in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.
