Evacuations Ordered In Simi Valley's Sharp Fire

The 75-acre blaze was burning close to homes and a hospital Wednesday afternoon.

SIMI VALLEY, CA — Residents in Simi Valley were ordered to evacuate Wednesday afternoon as two brush fires broke out amid extreme heat and quickly spread, threatening nearby homes.

Firefighters are battling the Sharp Fire in the area of Sharp Road near Ditch Road. As of early afternoon, it had scorched 75 acres. The second-alarm blaze is burning near a hospital in the area as well as several homes. One firefighter was hospitalized with a heat-related injury suffered while battlingthe blaze.

"The homes along ditch Road are currently under an evacuation order," the Ventura County Fire Department announced. A temporary evacuation point is available at Rancho Santa Susana Community Center in Simi Valley."

Homes east of Erringer Road and South of Lost Canyon Drive were under evacuation warning as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Approximately 200 firefighters are on the scene, and multiple fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are attacking the fire from the air, according to the fire department.

"Firefighters are using hose lines to attack the fire from multiple fronts," VCFD announced om X.

Firefighters also battled a second blaze dubbed Sequoia Fire nearby at Sequoia and Aspen Streets. That blaze has burned one acre with no structures threat as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
