Heat Advisory Issued In Northridge As Temps Reach Triple Digits

NORTHRIDGE, CA — A National Weather Service heat advisory is in effect until Tuesday at 8 pm in Agoura Hills, where temperatures climbed to 102 degrees Monday. AccuWeather reported that temperatures actually feel like 109 degrees.
The advisory has been extended to Tuesday night throughout the San Fernando Valley and the Antelope Valley, where temperatures reached 100 or more in several locations. Lancaster is expected to see a high of 103 Monday, according to Accuweather.
Winds in Northridge are moderate at 10 mph, but fire danger remains high. The UV index, which measures harmful rays, is also 8, which is considered very high.

Temperatures are expected to drop to less dangerous levels beginning Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to rise to 98 Tuesday, then 93 Wednesday, and 89 Thursday.
Forecasters urged people to drink plenty of fluids, seek out air-conditioned spaces and check in on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," the NWS said.
"Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."
