6 Wounded In Shooting Near NorCal High School

"This kind of violence, especially so close to our schools and local businesses, is deeply troubling."

STOCKTON, CA — Six adults survived being shot Friday afternoon near a Stockton high school, police said.

Gunfire erupted about 2:10 p.m. near Charter Way and Lincoln Street, just blocks from Edison High School, Police Chief Stanley McFadden said Saturday in a press release.

The six victims transported themselves or were taken to local hospitals for treatment, police said.

"This kind of violence, especially so close to our schools and local businesses, is deeply troubling," McFadden said in the statement.

While the motive remains unknown, "we do not believe this to be a random act of violence," he said.

"To our parents, students and residents: we understand your fear, your anger and desire for answers," McFadden said.

"We want you to know that we share your concerns, and we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice," the police chief said.

Anyone with information about the shooting, especially video footage from the area, is asked to submit an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers at (209) 946-0600, police said.
