Dozens Of Karla Brown Yard Signs Stolen In Pleasanton

Police say they are investigating the theft of around 50 signs for Karla Brown, as well as other local and national candidates.

PLEASANTON, CA — About 50 yard signs belonging to Mayor Karla Brown, were stolen over the weekend, according to the Pleasanton Police Department, Brown, and other reports.

“The Pleasanton Police Department can confirm three separate reports of stolen political signs related to the November election, which includes both presidential and local candidates," Pleasanton Police Department spokesperson Teri Yan told Patch. “It remains unclear whether specific candidates are being targeted, as some instances of theft may go unreported. This also makes it difficult to confirm the total number of stolen signs. We encourage anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the police department at (925) 931-5100.”

A few signs for Valerie Arkin were also stolen over the weekend, according to a report from KTVU.

Brown told Patch that she watched security footage of a person going out of their way to remove her signs.

“The loss of about 50-yard signs supporting my reelection for mayor has been very distressing. I watched a security video when a thief stepped around other campaign signs to remove mine. In Pleasanton, yard signs are a very important part of our campaign, so this looks to be a targeted attempt to influence an election,” she told Patch in an email.

“In response to the stolen signs, many residents have filed a police report. If your yard sign is missing, please call the non-emergency Pleasanton Police number 925-931-5100 and reference case number 24-34199. Speaking for my supporters, we just want our signs back.”

Brown said anyone whose sign was stolen should email karla@vote4karla.com to get a replacement.

Brown's opponent Jack Balch condemned the thefts on his campaign Facebook page.

“It has come to my attention through social media and community members that there are reports alleging my opponent’s yard signs are being stolen. Pleasanton—this is not who we are. I have no tolerance for such actions. My campaign team has worked hard to place our signs, just as my opponent’s team has done. How we disagree matters, and we should strive to reflect our community’s values,” Balch wrote, also encouraging anyone with information to contact the police.

“Additionally, I am disappointed to hear that accusations are being directed at my supporters and campaign team,” he continued, noting a few unsubstantiated claims made on social media.

“Casting blame without evidence is not only irresponsible but harms our community, our neighbors. This campaign—and our community—deserves better. I urge everyone in Pleasanton to keep our discourse respectful and focused on the issues. Let’s work together to model integrity and respect - even if we think no one is looking.”
