Former NFLer Dies In San Leandro: Report

Keith Browner Sr. played five seasons in the NFL between 1984 and 1988.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Former USC star and NFL player Keith Browner Sr. died Tuesday morning in San Leandro, according to multiple news reports. He was 63.

The news was first reported by TMZ, which said Browner Sr.'s son confirmed his death.

Browner Jr. told TMZ that his father's death was unexpected and sudden. It's unclear exactly how he died, but TMZ reported that Browner Sr. was experiencing stomach problems and was getting ready to visit a hospital when he collapsed Tuesday morning.

Browner Sr. was a standout player on USC's defensive team in the 80s before getting drafted in 1984 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played as a linebacker.

The Ohio native went on to play five seasons in the NFL between 1984 and 1988 with multiple teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. He finished his career with 10.5 sacks.
