San Leandro Man Arrested In 'Chop Shop' Operation: Police (patch.com) — San Leandro residents are learning more about a major stolen-vehicle bust after police raided a home on Alice Avenue and recovered seven stolen cars and a trailer. Detectives and a regional auto theft task force arrested 47-year-old resident Mario Tamez on suspicion of operating a chop shop and possessing drugs and multiple stolen vehicles, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb local auto theft.
   

2. Within a day, two East Bay friends vanished without a trace. Police are ramping up efforts to find them (mercurynews.com) — San Leandro police are intensifying the search for 30-year-old Justin Wayne Lee, reported missing from the city in May, along with his friend Esmeraldo Hernandez Vivero, who vanished a day later elsewhere in Alameda County. Seven months on, there are still no leads, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact San Leandro police or the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Alameda County DA Drops Charges Against San Leandro Officer in Fatal 2020 Shooting (kqed.org) — San Leandro residents should know that Alameda County prosecutors have dropped charges against former city police officer Jason Fletcher in the 2020 Walmart shooting of Steven Taylor, after saying they couldn’t prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. A judge granted the dismissal despite strong objections from Taylor’s family, and the move continues District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson’s broader rollback of earlier criminal justice reforms.
