Who Killed Samuel Canaday? Deputies Are Still Searching For Answers Years On

Canaday was found dead in the center divider of a street in unincorporated San Leandro, authorities said.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Authorities are again asking for help solving the case of a man who was found dead in the unincorporated San Leandro area nearly 30 years ago.

Samuel Canaday, 57, was found dead on a center divider along East 14th Street and 168th Avenue just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 4, 1998, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Just hours earlier, Canaday was arguing with another man outside the Corner House restaurant, deputies said.

It's unclear if that argument turned physical, but following it, Canaday entered the restaurant, while the other guy left, authorities said.

Canaday left the restaurant around 5:30 p.m. and was last seen leaving a trailer park along 168th Street, just minutes before he was found dead, according to authorities.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office asks that anyone who may have information or a tip on the case contact the agency at 510-667-3661. Anonymous tips can be left at 510-667-3622, deputies said.
