First-Ever 'Movie In The Park' Event Slated Saturday In Santee

SANTEE, CA — Community members can watch a movie under the stars during Movie in the Park Saturday in Santee.

The event is part of the Movies in the Park series hosted by San Diego County's Parks and Recreation Department.

Santee's special events supervisor, Becky Lowndes, told Patch this is the first time the city has partnered with the county for Movies in the Park. It's also Santee's first-ever movie in the park event.

"The city of Santee is proud to offer its first-ever Movie in the Park, joining the wildly successful Summer Movies in the Park event series hosted by San Diego County's Parks and Recreation Department," Lowndes told Patch. "We are thrilled to offer free entertainment for families to enjoy and provide them with an opportunity to make everlasting memories."

The event will feature a screening of the animated Disney movie, "Coco," a tale of visiting the Land of the Dead on Dia de Los Muertos.

To celebrate the final days of Hispanic Heritage Month, the event will also include a ballet folklórico performance, sugar skull face paintings and Mexican food. There will also be inflatables for children and an ice cream truck.

Movie in the Park will take place Saturday at Town Center Community Park East at 550 Park Center Drive. Pre-show activities will begin at 4 p.m. and the movie will start at 6:45 p.m.

Parking is available at the Town Center Community Park East parking lot. Additional parking is available at the Santee Aquatics Center and Cameron Family YMCA.
