7000+ Gallons Of Gas Avoided By Boulder's EV Chargers In 1 Year

Here's the progress Boulder's electric vehicle charging stations have made over the last year.

BOULDER, CO -- Boulder's city-owned electronic vehicle charging stations helped drivers avoid the emissions of more than 24,000 pounds of greenhouse gases in the last year, according to data released this week. The newest data set runs through Feb. 27, 2019, and in the year prior, drivers also avoided more than 7,000 gallons of gas using these public stations, a total cost savings of between $16,000 and $21,712, depending on when the vehicles were charged.

More drivers are taking advantage of the service as well. At the beginning of 2018, stations frequently only saw one visitor, but daily totals now average in the 30s and 40s, with a recorded high of 57 visits and 41 unique users on Jan. 25, 2019.

In addition to the city-run stations, the City of Boulder has worked to make stations more accessible to EV drivers throughout the region. In spring of last year, the city awarded a $50,000 Energy Challenge grants to EVMatch, a start-up that allows homeowners to sign up as "hosts" and offer charges for a fee to those in need of a boost.
