BOULDER, CO —The Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) announced Tuesday that actor Alec Baldwin will be its first-ever special guest programmer during next month's 18th annual event.

Baldwin has selected three films that have influenced him, and he will take part in a brief Q&A after the films are shown. Additionally, A "Conversation With Alec Baldwin" will take place at 6 p.m. on March 5 at the Boulder Theater, as Baldwin will be interviewed by BIFF Special Event Producer Ron Bostwick.

This will be one of Baldwin's first public appearances since last October's fatal accident in which he shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on the New Mexico set of the movie "Rust."

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the shooting, and no criminal charges have been filed, according to the New York Post. Though Deadline reported last week that a wrongful death lawsuit may be in the works.

Baldwin previously was a guest at BIFF in 2010, and he said he's excited to be returning to the event.

"I think Boulder is a great town and I know they have a wonderful festival," said Baldwin, who is a Tony and Oscar nominee, a three-time Emmy winner and a three-time Golden Globes winner.

According to a release, the three films Baldwin has chosen in his role as a special guest programmer are: "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb," "The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers," and "Julia," the latter a new documentary about Julia Child.

After the films are shown, film critic and culture writer Lisa Kennedy will discuss with Baldwin why he chose the films and what they mean to him.

Kathy Beeck, festival director for BIFF, said it was wonderful to feature Baldwin, whom she called a "friend of the festival and very knowledgeable about film."

"We're honored that this year Alec will be taking on this important role and sharing some of his favorite films with BIFF," Beeck said.

BIFF organizers said the entire 2022 program will be announced on Feb. 11, and that is when tickets to the events will go on sale.

Tickets for "A Conversation With Alec Baldwin" currently are on sale on the BIFF website. They are $60, but free for festival pass holders.
