Boulder County Offers Discounted Arbor Day Trees To Residents
This first-come, first-serve program comes with planting advice for optimal home energy savings and runs throughout the week.

BOULDER, CO — More than 600 heavily discounted trees will be available for Boulder County residents to purchase this week through the county sustainability office's EnergySmart service. The tree-planting program is designed to help residents better understand where to plant a tree on their property to achieve shading effects for maximum energy savings.
“Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained,” said Dan Lambe, Arbor Day Foundation President, in a statement about the program. “They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values by up to 18%, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.”
Beginning this week, residents will be able to reserve a five-gallon tree for just $25 and select a pickup location in either Boulder or Longmont. The program will continue until May 8, or whenever all available trees have been claimed. An online tool will allow buyers to estimate the possible home energy savings from the planting. Five tree varieties will be available this year including Austrian Pine, Bur Oak, Kentucky Coffee Tree, Ponderosa Pine, and Spring Snow Crabapple.
