Boulder Dodges Bomb Cyclone: Storm Report

In a storm that saw highways snarl and airport runways shut down, Boulder was squarely positioned in the eye of the storm.

BOULDER, CO -- With highways shut down by a blizzard to the east and the south, Boulder missed the brunt of the much-anticipated bomb cyclone, recording between two and three inches of accumulation, according to spotter reports. Locations further east in the county, such as Lafayette, Louisville, and Erie, reported totals in the range of four to five inches, while the official total at Denver International Airport approached eight inches at the end of the storm.

The peak wind gust at Boulder Municipal airport was recorded at just 32 miles per hour, in comparison to gusts near 80 miles per hour that forced DIA to close all of its runways on Wednesday afternoon.

For locations in the foothills of Boulder County, the report after the storm looked much different. Spotter reports in Jamestown showed 16 inches of accumulation, while Nederland hit 20 inches.
