CU Boulder To Hold 2022 Commencement In Person

BOULDER, CO —The University of Colorado announced Wednesday that this spring's commencement ceremony will be held in person for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

"I am excited that our students and their families will be able to join together with our faculty and staff to celebrate the many achievements of the class of 2022," CU Boulder Chancellor Philip DiStefano announced in a letter posted on social media.

The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on May 5, at Folsom Field. Colleges, schools, departments and programs also will hold their own individual recognition ceremonies for the class of 2022, the university announced.

CU Boulder also announced Wednesday that veteran journalist Tom Costello, of NBC News, will be this year's commencement speaker.

Costello, an Emmy award-winning correspondent, grew up in Centennial and graduated from CU Boulder. He now reports daily across all NBC News and MSNBC platforms, including "TODAY", "NBC Nightly News," MSNBC and NBC News Now.

DiStefano said that the university will comply with all local public health COVID-19 guidance at the commencement ceremony, which last was held in person in 2019.

"We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates at Folsom Field after a very challenging couple of years. Go Buffs!" DiStefano wrote.
