Drone Warning: City Of Longmont

A pilot will retain take-over control for the unmanned flight.

LONGMONT, CO -- The City of Longmont has issued an announcement to citizens about a planned drone flight over St. Vrain Creek. The unmanned aerial system flight, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20, will cover a small area along the creek, roughly bordered by Price Road/Boston Avenue to the north and South Bowen Street/Colorado Avenue to the south. The city states in its announcement that the drone will not fly over BNSF Railroad property or right-of-way.

The drone's images will be used to obtain pre-site information for water line replacement along the St. Vrain Creek in 2019, and will also be used in public information activities related to local flood mitigation project, Resilient St. Vrain.

The City of Longmont explains that the flight path will cover a roughly two-acre area surrounding the creek, and will be conducted at an altitude of less than 400 feet following a preprogrammed route. A pilot will have takeover control at all times.
