Four Local Cities on Sierra Club Climate Pledge List

Boulder County is home to almost four percent of the cities nationwide that have committed to 100 percent renewables.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO -- A Sierra Club tally of cities committed to 100 percent renewable energy just got its 101st entry — and four Boulder county municipalities are already on the list. Aspen is still leading the pack for Colorado cities, hitting the goal in 2015 with a mix of approximately 50 percent wind, 45 percent hydropower, and the remaining 5 percent from solar and landfill waste, according to the Sierra Club's records. Five other cities — Burlington, Georgetown, Greensburg, Rockport, and Kodiak Island – have already hit the 100 percent mark.

U.S. cities have made public commitments to cut carbon and address climate change through initiatives like the Compact of Mayors, We Are Still In, or by establishing their own Climate Action Plans. Here are the marks set up by municipalities in Boulder County:

Longmont: Longmont has committed to 100 percent clean, renewable electricity by 2030. In late 2017, Mayor Brian Bagley made the pledge for a community-wide transition.
