BOULDER, CO -- A coalition of rescue agencies successfully located two hikers on Tuesday evening at about 9:30 p.m. after they ventured off-trail near the Royal Arch Trail and became lost, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. Rescuers were also able to retrieve the hikers' dog that had become stuck in a snow gully with the use of a hand line to ascend and descend the slope.

The hikers used their cell phone to call 911 when they found themselves off the trail and unsure of their location. They were reported to be near the top of the Royal Arch trail and unprepared for the changing weather, according to the sheriff's department.

Both hikers and dog were rescued uninjured, and were safely escorted to the Chautauqua parking lot.
