Homeschooled Boulder Student Wins Second Spelling Bee Title

Victorious, 12-year-old Cameron Keith will now head to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

BOULDER, CO -- Cameron Keith took his second consecutive victory at the Boulder County School District Regional Spelling Bee this weekend, according to reporting from the Daily Camera. The 12-year-old, who is currently homeschooled, clinched victory by properly spelling "hebedo" after his last-standing competitor, Henry Stauch of Sunset Middle School, added a second "l" into the word "bolus."

Hebedo is a type of embroidery characterized by decorative stitching.

This means that Keith will be headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC at the end of May. Last year, in his third shot at national-level competition, he made it to the final rounds before stumbling over "chausses"—a word for close-fitting coverings for the legs and feet.
