How To Get Free Boulder Bonus Bucks Cards

BOULDER, CO — A program has been launched in Boulder to help small retail businesses stay afloat this holiday shopping season. The initiative offers people incentive 'bonus bucks' if they shop local.

Under the new Retail S.O.S. program, shoppers will receive a $25 Boulder Bonus Bucks card for every $25 spent in Boulder gift cards purchased, up to $100 per person. More than 60 local businesses have signed up for the program.

The city will use a portion of allocated federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funding to pay for the matching Bonus Bucks cards, which will be valid at participating businesses through Dec. 30 — the deadline for when the CARES Act funds must be spent.

Boulder Mayor Sam Weaver said the city is "pleased to provide residents with this opportunity to make the holidays a little brighter for themselves and for local, small businesses.”

“Small businesses help make Boulder special and provide our community with the goods and services we need and enjoy in our lives. Shopping at local businesses generates sales tax funds that support the basic services we rely on, from police and fire response to the open space, parks, paths and libraries we all treasure,” the mayor said in a statement.

More than 80 percent of retail businesses in Boulder employ fewer than 20 people, the city said.
