Local Cyclists To Take On Picture Rock Motorcycle Trail Damage
A Redstone Cyclery volunteer group will collaborate with Boulder County Parks and Open Space to repair the damage done by two motorcycles.
LONGMONT, CO -- After two motorcycles ventured onto a muddy Picture Rock trail in February, the area needs of a bit of rehab to help smooth out the deep ruts. A group of volunteers organized by Redstone Cyclery are taking on the challenge this evening in collaboration with supervisors from Boulder County Parks and Open Space.
After the February incident, rangers determined that only about 250 feet of trail had been severely damaged and would need significant repairs. For their part, the motorcyclists, who were from out of town and claimed they did not know the area was not open to motor vehicles, were assessed a $450 fine to help pay for the restoration.
Redstone is inviting anyone who wants to help with the work to meet at 5 p.m. at the trailhead, though late arrivals will still be welcomed. Tools will be provided by the county, and Redstone promises an after-party with grilling back at the shop in partnership with Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance.
