More Leaks At Longmont's Centennial Pool Mean Extended Closure
While eager swimmers wait, the project has hit another snag.
LONGMONT, CO -- More leaks have been found at Longmont's Centennial Pool, extending the closure that began late last summer.
"The pool grounding system has been compromised, and unfortunately, a new grounding plan will have to be developed, then implemented," stated an update on the pool website, noting the goal of establishing a completed plan by April. "We are extremely saddened by the news, and this situation could cause Centennial Pool to continue to be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
The closure began in August after a faulty sump pump caused flooding that damaged the electrical system. The city originally hoped to reopen the pool by January, but concerns about the integrity of the diving well that shared a room with the sump pump and sustained damage in the flood have continued to push that date back.

The pool was filled with water to equalize the pressure before making repairs earlier this month, according to a March 8 project update. However, during the fill, new leaks were discovered between the surge pit and the sump room wall, creating an expected delay of 2–3 more weeks before the pool could be opened.
On March 19, the city announced that another leak had been discovered in the diving well room window, and that it had been discovered that the grounding system had been compromised. According to information from the Times-Call, after the new electrical plan has been finalized, the city will be able to estimate a new opening date.
