New Mental Health Care Facility Arrives At Boulder Community

The pioneering $45 million Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion will be fully operational this Tuesday.

BOULDER, CO -- One of the most sophisticated mental health care units in the country will soon be in Boulder. Operated by Boulder Community Health, the Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion will be fully operational this Tuesday, according to a report from the Daily Camera, and is expected to be Colorado's most modern mental health care facility.

"To not provide services related to mental health would be like not providing cardiac care or another specialty," Jacqueline Attlesey-Pries, vice president of operations and chief nursing officer told the Camera. "We have looked at it as a part of our overall responsibility to this community to provide these services to help people; we are not only there for their physical bodies, but their minds as well."

Attlesey-Pries also noted that many facilities have gotten out of the business of providing mental health services in small, community based facilities. The Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion is made possible by $6.5 million in donations from more than 350 individual donors and companies. According to the Camera, BCH officials see this support as an example of the entire Boulder County community's commitment to supporting and expanding area services for those with mental illness.

"Having first-rate medical care for people with mental illness is vital to personal and community well-being," Dr. Robert Vissers, president and CEO of BCH, told the Camera in a statement. "BCH is able to invest so heavily in mental health services primarily because we are a locally governed, independent health system."

"That local control allows us to tailor our services to the specific needs of our local community. We don't have a corporate office in Denver or another state determining what's best for Boulder."
