Police Seek Armed Carjacker; Issue "Shelter In Place" Warning

Police report that the suspect carjacked two vehicles and has a handgun.

BOULDER, CO -- Boulder police are searching for an armed carjacker near the 2500 block of Bluff Street in North Boulder, after an incident Friday evening. Residents within a three-block radius of the area received a reverse 911 call advising them to shelter in place according to a news release posted by the police department on Friday.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Friday night, an officer who was working undercover witnessed an armed carjacking on 28th Street just south of Glenwood Drive. When the officer attempted to intervene, the suspect rammed his vehicle with the stolen car. Officers pursued the suspect to 28th Street near Valmont Road where the suspect crashed before carjacking another person in the area, according to the Friday evening police report. The suspect then drove the 2500 block of Bluff Street, where he ditched the vehicle and took off on foot.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned man with a medium build, approximately 5’7” – 5’8” tall, wearing a tan puffy jacket. According to the report, he is armed with a handgun.

Police began searching the area on foot and have been utilizing a K-9 and drone. Anyone in the area that sees or hears anything suspicious is asked to call 911 immediately.
