- Doesn't everyone want to be a superhero? Well, now you can be! Join Boulder Voices for Children on April 2 for the Superhero 5k and Kids 1K Fun Run at Twisted Pine Brewing Company, at 3201 Walnut St Suite A. The first week of April is “Week of the Young Child.” The purpose of the week, is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. April is also "National Child Abuse Prevention Month" and a time to highlight the importance of individuals and communities working together to keep kids safe and families healthy. The 5k and kids 1k will be raising funds and awareness for Boulder Voices For Children which has a mission is to provide trained court-appointed special advocates (CASA’s), to advocate for children in Boulder County who have experienced abuse and neglect. For more information and to sign up for the race click here. (Boulder Voices for Children via Facebook)
- In an effort to crack down on contamination, there are big changes coming for recycling compost in Boulder. Last week, A1 Organcs announced that it will no longer accept many biodegradable products. Starting April 1, the company will only be accepting food scraps, yard waste, plant trimming and certain compostable bags. The company no longer will be taking paper materials, tea bags, coffee filters, disposable cutlery and other items labeled as “compostable.”(kunc.org)
- With a goal of promoting media literacy, two CU Boulder student team groups will be part of the Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) Bateman Case Study Competition, competing against 70 other teams from around the nation. The aim of the competition is to run a public relations campaign for the same client and see who wins. This year’s client is News Literacy Project, a nonpartisan education non-profit with a mission to increase news literacy in America. The two teams are The Daily He(a)rd with a hashtag #stoptherumorripple and False Creative Communications whose hashtag is #thinkb4ushare. Good luck students! (independent)
