Severe Weather Alert: High Wind Warning, Gusts to 80mph

There will be dangerous winds across the Front Range, foothills, and eastern mountains today. Here are the impacts and how to stay safe.

BOULDER, CO -- Were you woken by gusts last night? The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning that includes all of Boulder County, the foothills, the Front Range mountains, and the northern plains. Gusts could hit up to 80mph this afternoon, with sustained winds 30–45mph. The warning is in effect through tonight.

Hazardous cross-winds can be expected on all north-south roadways, so take particular care if choosing to drive in exposed areas. High winds can also cause downed power lines, fallen tree limbs, and flying loose objects. Be sure to secure any items you have outside, and take care when outdoors today.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office reminded residents Sunday that there can be no open burning anywhere in the county, including unincorporated areas, while the warning is in effect.
