Ted's Montana Grill To Close New Year's Day

Another Pearl Street business announces its closing, owners are "perplexed".

BOULDER, CO -- It's a tough week for business on Pearl Street's East End. Ted's Montana Grill has announced that it will be closing the doors at its Boulder location on New Year's Day — the same the city's much-loved coffee joint, The Cup, will also fail to open after more than decade of downtown tenure. Both businesses have prime spots in one of the city's most desirable locations, but that hasn't seemed to be enough.

"Our menu is aligned with what the Boulder community is looking for," Kristi Martin, president and COO of Ted's Montana Grill told the Daily Camera this week, reflecting on the restaurant's eight-year tenure in the spot. "Our food is organic, gluten-free and made from scratch. We're a little bit perplexed as to why the community didn't embrace us."

Ted's Montana Grill opened its Boulder location in October 2010, and currently has more than 40 other restaurants across 16 states, including eight in Colorado.

Wendy Ball, co-owner of The Cup, noted that it was not only high rent, but a lack of people on the East End that led to her shop's closure.
