Travel Warning: Heavy Snow In Mountains As Holiday Weekend Starts

Looking to jet out of town early for the holiday weekend? Heavy snow is already causing travel impacts along the 1-70 corridor.

BOULDER, CO -- Excited about getting out of town for the holiday weekend? Thinking of skipping out of work a few hours early to head for the hills? You might want to pump the brakes. Heavy snow is currently falling across the 1-70 corridor, and making for potentially treacherous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a travel advisory with moderate to high impacts for the Front Range foothills and mountains today. According to the NWS, slick roads and travel delays are possible, and chain laws are likely to be in effect.

Two pieces of good news: The storm should be winding down this evening, so right now it looks like a later departure today or tomorrow shouldn't provide any unusual problems — and more than a foot of snow may fall in the high country today, so when you do get up there the turns should be particularly spectacular.
