BOULDER, CO -- Viola Davis, the first black actress to win an Oscar, Tony and Emmy award, is scheduled to speak at CU-Boulder's Macky Auditorium on April 4. Davis is best known for her roles in "Fences" (2017), "The Help" (2011), "Doubt" (2008), as the ABC series, "How To Get Away With Murder." Davis and her husband also founded JuVee Productions in 2012, which has produced projects like "Custody" (2016), "Lila and Eve" (2015) and Vee-Jay Records.

The event will be hosted by two CU student-led organizations, the Cultural Events Board and the Distinguished Speakers Board.

“Viola Davis epitomizes an extraordinary woman who uses her platform, as an actress, an artist, a mother and a woman, to drive all-encompassing social change through media and production,” said Mavjuda Rassel, chair for the Cultural Events Board told CU-Boulder Today. “Her attribution for change bestows hope for women of color, as well as women at large, to pursue any, and all, aspirations despite societal hindrance.”
