Over 700 Colorado Workers to Be Laid Off After USPS Contract Ends (townsquarenoco.com) — More than 700 workers at the USPS Denver Regional Transfer Hub are set to lose their jobs on February 28 after the Postal Service chose not to extend its contract with Alan Ritchey, Inc. Federal auditors previously flagged serious mail security and package-theft risks at the Denver facility, and USPS plans to bring hub operations back in-house, leaving local employees facing sudden uncertainty.
   

2. Denver Sees One of Its Largest Fires in Years as Apartment Complex Burns (power1029noco.com) — A massive five-alarm fire destroyed a large under-construction apartment complex near Leetsdale Drive and South Forest Street in Denver on January 2, drawing 156 firefighters and injuring one, who is now recovering. Officials say the 238-unit Harker Heights project was empty when flames erupted, and a veteran Denver fire chief called it one of the biggest fires the city has seen in years.
   

3. State officials ‘unlikely' to pursue monetary penalties after bad fuel sold across metro area (kdvr.com) — Drivers across the Denver metro area are dealing with disabled cars after diesel-contaminated gasoline from an HF Sinclair terminal was sold at multiple Costco and King Soopers stations, including one in Denver. State officials say monetary penalties are unlikely, but affected residents are urged to contact the station where they bought fuel, file a claim, and watch for quick engine sputtering or shutdown.

Polis, Johnston help unveil mural to the west to kick off Stock Show (denvergazette.com) — A new 40-foot mural celebrating Colorado’s agricultural heritage was unveiled at the National Western Stock Show’s Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Livestock Center in Denver, with Gov. Jared Polis and Mayor Mike Johnston on hand. Created by Denver artist Thomas “Detour” Evans, the piece highlights the state’s rural-urban connections as the 16-day Stock Show opens with rodeos, cattle judging, and family-friendly events.
   

5. Police in Denver metro area say others heard gunshots in deadly shooting, but didn't call authorities (cbsnews.com) — Police in the Denver metro area are investigating a deadly shooting after a man in his late 20s was found fatally wounded in Wolff Run Park’s parking lot in Westminster early Saturday. Investigators say nearby residents heard gunshots but didn’t call 911 and are now asking neighbors to review overnight camera footage and share any information with detectives.
