Casa Bonita Fans Plan Rally To Save Iconic Restaurant

Community members are planning to gather for a rally Saturday morning outside Casa Bonita in an effort to save the restaurant.

LAKEWOOD, CO — A "Save Casa Bonita Rally" is set to be held Saturday morning outside the popular Lakewood restaurant and family entertainment venue.

The rally is part of an effort to support the iconic eatery after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The event is set to run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. outside Casa Bonita, at 6715 W Colfax Ave.

"Please wear a face mask, be safe, and be respectful of the Lamar Station shopping center," event organizers said on the Save Casa Bonita Rally Facebook page. "Please park offsite so our group is not seen as a nuisance."

A GoFundMe page was launched March 14 in an effort to save the restaurant. As of Friday, the page had raised more than $45,000.

"We are a group of Denver people who love Casa Bonita and are worried about its future," the fundraising page read. "Casa Bonita is an important cultural and historic icon and a vibrant piece of the Colorado landscape.

"There are many scenarios that could play out and with your help we can be prepared to act with money and influence no matter which direction it goes."

The restaurant, which has been in business for more than 47 years, announced in March that it would be "opening soon," but the bankruptcy papers were filed April 6 by the restaurant's holding company, Summit Family Restaurants, Inc.

The restaurant closed in the spring of 2020 due to pandemic restrictions.

Casa Bonita has been around since 1974. The mainstay is known for its waterfall, stage shows, Mexican fare and arcade. The eatery serves Mexican fare, and even features a gift shop.
