The Red Rocks Community College is hosting free drive-thru performances of the Lope de Vega Play "Fuente Ovejuna."

LAKEWOOD, CO — Leave it up to Colorado's theater community to get creative during the pandemic — a college group in Lakewood is hosting performances for audiences who don't need to get out of their cars.

The Red Rocks Community College Theatre Arts and Dance Department will present a drive-through 'theater experience' of the classic Lope de Vega Play "Fuente Ovejuna," adapted and directed by Maru Garcia.

The performances will be held at 5 p.m. each day on April 22, 23 and 24. Audience members will sign up by car load for a time slot, and will experience the performance while staying in their cars. Actors will perform scenes around each car, and each performance will last around 30 minutes.

Play description, courtesy of the theater arts and dance program:

"From the golden age of the Spanish theater comes this captivating seventeenth-century drama of peasantry defending their honor against oppression by a feudal lord. Based on a historical incident during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, Fuente Ovejuna takes its name form an Andalusian town in which the residents unite to enact justice when faced with vicious oppression. A powerful play that reminds us about the abuse of power by authorities."
