High-risk health care workers — those who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients for 15 minutes or more — will be the first to receive the vaccine.

For someone to be fully vaccinated, they must receive two doses, 21 days apart. Then two weeks after their second dose, they will be immune, public health officials said.

Some Colorado hospitals don't have the ability to store the Pfizer vaccine, which needs to be kept at extremely low temperatures; however, the Moderna vaccine does not need to be stored at the ultra-cold temperatures, which allows it to be distributed even further, especially to rural areas, public health officials said.
