Avon Library Launches Classical Music Series

The series starts Thursday, Nov. 14.

Editor's Note: Are you a classical music lover? Avon Free Public Library is launching a classical music series that starts Nov. 14. Take a look at the library's submitted release on the event. 

Presenting Petrushka

Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.

The debut program in this new series features conductor Edward Cumming and choreographer/dancer/teacher Stephen Pier, your guides for a backstage tour of Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Petrushka, its place in Stravinsky’s work, and the intricacies of its production.

This 1911 masterpiece will be performed the following week at the University of Hartford by the Hartt Orchestra and Hartt Dance, led by Cumming and Pier.

Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 7 p.m.

Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Luiz de Maura Castro will share his artistry with three young, aspiring students, each polishing stylistically differing musical selections. In this rare look at a fascinating process you will marvel at the subtle changes in sound, musical concept, phrasing, color and expressiveness that only a master teacher can bring about.

An Evening of Classical Guitar

Thursday Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

Chamber and solo works for guitar, guitar quartet, and flute and guitar featuring undergraduate and graduate students in the Performance Program of the Hartt School Guitar Department.
